Artificial Grass for Balconies and Terraces in Surat: Pros, Cons and Tips
Artificial grass can turn a bare balcony or terrace into a green corner without watering. It also has limits in strong sun and heavy rain. Here is what to know.

Where it works well
- Balconies and terraces that need a soft, green look.
- Children's play corners.
- Cafes and small seating areas.
What to check
- Pile height: shorter pile for easy walking; longer pile for a softer look.
- Drainage: the backing should let water through.
- UV resistance: ask whether it is made for outdoor sun.
- Edges: trimmed neatly and fixed so they do not lift.
Heat and sun
Surat's afternoon sun can make any surface warm. Light shades, shade structures and sun control film on nearby glass make the space more usable.
Cleaning
Sweep or brush off leaves and dust. Rinse with water and a mild cleaner if needed. Clean up spills and pet waste promptly.
Other balcony protection
If birds or mosquitoes are a problem, see pigeon nets and mosquito nets.
What affects the quotation
The price depends on area, grass type and pile height, floor condition and fixing method. We measure and quote in writing.
Choosing the grass
- Short pile: neat, easy to sweep, good for narrow balconies.
- Medium or long pile: softer look, more cushioning.
- Colour: a mix of green shades looks more natural than one flat green.
- Backing: should allow drainage and resist weather.
Laying method
Grass can be laid loose, taped or glued, depending on the surface and how long you want it to stay. Loose or taped laying is easier to remove later. Glue is stronger, but harder to undo. Leave a small gap at the drain and trim edges neatly.
Common mistakes
- Laying over a balcony that holds water.
- Blocking the drain.
- Choosing indoor-grade grass for an outdoor space.
- Leaving loose edges that lift in wind.
- Forgetting that the surface may be warm in the afternoon.
Cleaning and care
Brush occasionally to keep the pile upright. Rinse off dust and pet waste. Remove leaves so water drains freely. Check the edges after heavy rain.

Frequently asked questions
Does artificial grass get hot in the sun?
It warms in direct afternoon sun, like any surface. A higher pile and a lighter shade stay a little cooler, and shade helps.
Will rainwater collect on it?
Good artificial grass has drainage holes. Make sure your balcony floor slopes towards a drain so water does not pool.
Can it be removed later?
Often yes, if it was laid loose or with tape. If glued, removal may leave residue on the floor.
