Best Blinds for High-Rise Flats in Vesu, Althan and Pal

Many flats in Vesu, Althan, Pal and Adajan sit high above the ground, with large windows and sliding balcony doors. That changes which blinds work best. Here is what to think about before you order.

What is different about high-rise flats

Higher floors usually mean more sun, more glare and stronger wind. Windows and sliding doors are often large, and the view is part of why you bought the flat. The right blind keeps the view when you want it and gives privacy and shade when you do not.

Choosing the blind type

  • Sunscreen roller blinds: cut glare while keeping a view of the outside. A good choice for living rooms and home offices.
  • Blackout roller blinds: for bedrooms. Choose a width that overlaps the frame to reduce light leaks at the edges.
  • Zebra blinds: adjustable between light and privacy. See our comparison of zebra and roller blinds.
  • Honeycomb blinds: the trapped air layer helps with heat and comfort in rooms that get strong sun.

Wind and balcony doors

When a balcony door stays open, a light blind can lift and tap against the frame. Heavier bottom rails, correct width and, for doors, vertical blinds or sliding panel systems usually behave better than a small roller blind on a large sliding door. Tell your installer how often the door is open.

Height and safety

Tall windows need long operating chains or motors. Motorised blinds are convenient for hard-to-reach windows and keep cords out of children's reach. Follow building safety rules and never lean out of a window to fit or clean a blind. Leave work at height to trained installers.

Heat: blinds alone are not enough

A blind shades the room but the sun has already come through the glass. For west-facing windows, pair blinds with sun control film on the glass.

Before you order

  1. Measure each window at three places and note the smallest width and height. See how to measure windows.
  2. Decide inside fit or outside fit for each window.
  3. Check fabric samples in your own light.
  4. Ask about the mechanism and how parts are replaced.

Room-by-room suggestions

  • Master bedroom: blackout roller with a snug width, or curtains plus a sheer roller. Check light leaks at the edges and the top.
  • Living room with a large window: sunscreen roller or zebra blinds for daytime glare control, kept clear of furniture so they can move freely.
  • Kitchen window: wipeable roller fabric or faux-wood blinds, away from the stove and splashes.
  • Sliding balcony door: vertical blinds or a panel system that moves with the door, rather than a small roller that flaps in the draught.
  • Study or home office: sunscreen fabric to stop glare on screens while keeping the view.

Mistakes we often see

  • Ordering from a photo of the fabric without seeing it in the flat's own light.
  • Choosing an outside fit on a window with a handle or grill that gets in the way.
  • Leaving no room for the blind to stack above the window.
  • Choosing long chains in a home with small children.
  • Ignoring the afternoon sun. A west-facing room can be bright and hot even with blinds.

Care and lifespan

Dust blinds with a soft cloth or a brush attachment. Wipe marks gently according to the fabric supplier's advice. Do not force a stuck blind; it usually needs a bracket or clutch adjusted. Good blinds can last for years, and parts such as chains, brackets and clutches can usually be replaced without changing the whole blind.

Questions to ask before you order

  1. Is my window better with an inside or an outside fit?
  2. How will the blind behave when the window or door is open?
  3. Is a cordless or motorised option available for this window?
  4. What happens if a part fails after installation?
  5. Can I see the fabric in my own room before I confirm?

Frequently asked questions

Do blinds swing in the wind in high-rise flats?

They can when windows or balcony doors are open. Weighted bottom rails, a snug fit and, for doors, side guides or magnetic fixing options help. Ask the installer what suits your window.

Which blinds are safest for homes with small children?

Cordless or motorised blinds avoid hanging cords and chains. Where a chain is used, it should be fixed so a child cannot reach or loop it.

Can blinds be fitted on aluminium window frames?

Often yes, using the right brackets and fixings. The installer checks the frame and wall at the site visit and advises whether to fix inside or outside the frame.
